FAQs

How many tickets may I reserve?

  • You may reserve the same number of ZooLights tickets as adults and children covered by your membership. Your entire reservation must be on a single date and you may only make one reservation per membership - not per named adult.

  • Individual = one adult ticket
  • Dual = two adult tickets
  • Family = two adult tickets, up to four child tickets
  • Family Plus = three adult tickets, up to four child tickets
  • Sustaining = four adult tickets, up to four child tickets
  • All named cardholders will be required to show photo ID and member benefits are not transferrable - meaning another adult cannot receive free admission in the place of a named cardholder who cannot attend.

  • Please only reserve as many tickets as you need for your family. This will allow as many member families as possible to take advantage of this offer.

Does my infant/toddler need a ZooLights ticket?

  • This event has the same policy as Zoo admission: age 2 or older is required to have their own ticket. Children under age two may accompany an adult with one ticket.

Can I purchase additional ZooLights tickets for guests that are not covered by my membership?

  • Yes. If you have additional adults or children who want to attend ZooLights with your family but those individuals are not covered by your membership, you can purchase regular ZooLights admission for them. On December 4, 5, 6, and 7 ZooLights is open to the general public in addition to being free for a limited number of members.

Will the California Trail Gondola be running during ZooLights?

  • Yes, the gondola will be running as a round-trip ride, passengers will not be allowed to get off at the top. There is no additional cost to ride the gondola during ZooLights.

Can we eat dinner in The Landing Cafe?

  • The Landing Cafe will not be open during ZooLights, but hot chocolate and snacks will be available at our other food stands.

Are the rides in Adventure Landing free during ZooLights?

  • Because this is a fundraiser for the Zoo, ride tickets are still required for Adventure Landing. The train, roller coaster, carousel, and other rides will be open during ZooLights and Adventure Landing decorated with lights.
  • We recommend purchasing extra ride tickets during your next Zoo visit to use during ZooLights. This will let you skip the ride ticket booth line during the event. Any extra tickets you have for Adventure Landing can be used during regular daytime visits.

Can we visit the Zoo in the afternoon and stay for ZooLights?

  • No. The Zoo closes at 4 pm and all visitors are cleared, then we re-open for ZooLights at 5:30 pm. This system allows us to safely drive vehicles through the Zoo during ZooLights set-up and ensures everyone attending ZooLights has a ticket for the fundraiser.

What if weather closes ZooLights on the evening we have free tickets?

  • If weather closes ZooLights on December 4, 5, 6, or 7, member tickets for that specific evening will shift to be valid for the following week on the same day. For example, if it rains on Tuesday, December 5 those tickets will automatically be honored on Tuesday, December 12.
  • You will be notified by email if your ticket can be used on an alternate date.
  • If the re-scheduled evening of ZooLights is also closed due to weather, we are unable to make further accomodations for ticket holders.

This webform says tickets are sold out, how can I get into ZooLights for free?

  • Unfortunately, we are only able to offer a limited number of free admission tickets. First, because ZooLights is an important fundraiser for Oakland Zoo. Second, because total capacity for each evening of ZooLights is limited. We're sorry we can't accomodate more member families.

My family can't attend any of these dates - how can we enjoy ZooLights?

  • ZooLights is open December 1-January 1, excluding December 24 and 25 so our staff may spend those holiday evenings with their families. ZooLights will close on evenings with rain or winds.
  • Because ZooLights is an important fundraiser for Oakland Zoo, Members are not eligible for free admission except for the limited number of tickets available through this webform.
  • Members get $1 off ZooLights tickets by showing their current membership card and photo ID when purchasing ZooLights tickets at the Zoo.
